Mary Yamin-Garone hails from upstate New York. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Journalism from the State University of New York at Albany. In her senior year, she was one of 15 students selected by Pulitzer Prize-winning author William Kennedy to participate in his journalism/writing course. Acceptance was based on the quality of the writing submission. Self-employed for 23 years, Mary is an award-winning writer and editor and the President and CEO of The Ys One Writing Service. She also helps coaches, consultants, speakers and entrepreneurs turn their message into a book that scales their impact and income. In her 35 years as a professional writer and editor, she’s seen every aspect of the writing world as the featured guest writing expert on a weekly radio talk show; the recipient of numerous writing and editing awards and accolades; and as the coach/editor for several best-selling books. One of her proudest moments was when she received the Communication 2002 APEX Award for Publication Excellence for Magazine and Newspaper Writing for her work following the September 11th terrorist attacks. Mary has served as the guest of honor and speaker at Fashion Night Out, a charity fashion show and silent auction to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer’s. She also has participated in the annual Memory Walk, raising over $15,000 for the cause. In addition, she has written and published extensively on a full spectrum of topics related to Alzheimer’s and dementia and launched a podcast that helps demystify the disease for others. As a writer, editor and coach, it is her mission to continue helping others share their message with the world, improve lives and make an impact with their words. Married to her musician husband for 36 years, Mary has three step-children and nine grandchildren. She is a self-proclaimed run junkie (She’s been running for 36 years); a lover of big dogs (She has two, Moses and Spartacus) and an advocate for Alzheimer’s caregivers (Her mother suffers from the disease).
